The Esoteric Book Club is a very important preliminary step in organizing and creating community together. It serves as an excellent meeting place for people to gather and set the process in motion for creating other more involved groups. Creating a book club is very easy and joining a book club is a very low level of commitment.

It requires no special training to be able to create and maintain a chapter of the Esoteric Book Club and we would really like to see anyone who is even vaguely interested in helping us to establish magical groups to seriously consider starting a chapter of the Esoteric Book Club as a first step.

The club will meet once a month in person as local groups to discuss a book selected by committee for the Club. The book will be chosen to match the theme of the Zodiac sign that the sun is currently occupying. The major criteria for the books will be that they are high quality, relatively unknown (or unread), and hopefully as un-dogmatic as possible. The selection committee rotates annually and consists of volunteers who have run a chapter of the Club with three or more members for at least six months.

A website with a forum is also maintained for conversation and book reviews over the internet. A cordial and non-combative environment will be encouraged (and enforced if necessary). Through localized meetings and internet forums a strong sense of community is  being created with no drama (or little) and no hierarchical battles.

Esoteric Book Club is a great place for people from different esoteric backgrounds to come together and find a sense of shared community without any of the rigors of belonging to a fraternity, coven or an order. People with matching interests are able to find each other to create working groups or to let people know about circles, covens, groves or lodges that they are already a part of when looking for members. People who are teaching classes or forming groups under the Universal Enlightenment umbrella are able to find each other here as well.

Already formed Meetup groups should create a chapter of the Esoteric Book Club for members interested in studying more literature in a supportive and organized environment. Bookstore owners should form Esoteric Book club chapters to meet at their stores, or contact us to let us know that you would be willing to host one if others organized it.

If you are interested in starting a chapter and don’t know where you would hold meetings, a magical or even new age bookstore would be a great location. Local coffee shops, tea houses or pubs would also be great places. 

By having a large number of people communally reading specific esoteric books together we will also hopefully impact the whole of esoteric publishing in two positive ways. First, we will encourage the publication of high quality literature and more advanced texts through our guaranteed sales. Second, we will hopefully be able to arrange for special discounted pricing that we can offer to members of the club.

Membership is free although donations are accepted as needed for local groups to cover incidental expenses and via the internet to cover the costs of maintaining the website. Donations will be tax deductible when our non-profit status is completed.
